Banya Traditionals: The Complete Winter Experience

Visit The Bath House this winter to share heat, food and conversation.  And to make your visit even more special we’reintroducing a selection of traditional seasonal dishes.

kholodets

A classic Eastern European delicacy, kholodets is a slow-cooked meat jelly, gently seasoned and served chilled. Containing shredded meat, vegetables, garlic and spices, it is rich, nourishing and the perfect contrast after the warmth of banya.

Fun Fact: A quintessentially Slavic dish, the name comes from the Russian word for cold. Before the advent of refrigeration, the dish could only be made in winter and the jelly-like consistency was created by boiling animal parts such as trotters and feet. Today kholodets is the traditional centrepiece on New Year tables, offering a comforting and nostalgic taste for many.

Shishka-Style Chocolate Dessert

Our signature chocolate dessert, inspired by the traditional pine cone shape, offers a moment of indulgence after your treatments. Rich, comforting and beautifully presented, it’s a sweet finish to your banya ritual.

Fun Fact: In Slavic and Eastern European folklore, pine cones (shishki) were often used in decorative crafts and believed to bring good luck, fertility and protection to the home.

Traditional Mulled Wine

Nothing complements a winter banya experience quite like mulled wine. Gently heated red wine infused with aromatic spices and citrus, served warm to keep the cold firmly at bay.

Fun Fact: Mulled wine dates back to Ancient Rome, where wine was heated and spiced to preserve it through the winter months. Over centuries, it spread across Europe and became a staple of festive celebrations, especially in Germany, the UK and Scandinavia. Its warming spices were also believed to have medicinal properties, helping to fight off colds in winter.

Together, these winter highlights complete the banya experience. Warmth, relaxation, good food and great company, all in one place.
